A new company on an old round.
AJ4 Electrical Ltd is Aaron Pledger — one electrician, one van, working out of Sewards End a couple of minutes east of Saffron Walden. The company was incorporated on 3 July 2023, which is recent, and we'd rather put that in the first paragraph than bury it.
What isn't recent is the work. Before AJ4, Aaron was at Chris Rix Electrical — a firm that had been serving Newport, Saffron Walden and Bishop's Stortford for over forty years. When Rix stopped general electrical contracting, Aaron set AJ4 up and carried on looking after a good part of that customer book: the same farms, the same village houses, the same shops. So a lot of the numbers in the phone are people who'd been calling the old one for years, which is a different kind of reference from a page of badges.
The work splits seven ways, and that's deliberate rather than a scattergun. Domestic electrics fill most weeks. Agricultural work — control panels for grain handling systems, machinery breakdowns, three-phase into barns — is a proper speciality and the part most local sparks quietly decline. EV car charger installation for houses, farmyards and car parks. PAT testing for offices, shops, halls and landlords. Commercial refits and energy-saving lighting. New homes, from the design stage through to completion. And electrical contracts for local authorities and housing associations across the South East.
Being this size has an obvious cost and we'd rather be straight about it: the phone isn't always answered, and we don't advertise a 24-hour call-out we couldn't honestly staff. What we do instead is prioritise — a farm that has stopped in the middle of harvest, and an existing customer with no power, both go to the front of the queue.
